Iron, Manganese, Chromium, Titanium and Vanadium Deposits

The iron content is high, varying from 40% to 50% in southwest of the deposit through a range of 15–50% in its central part to a range of 50–52% in the western part of the deposit. The average iron ore content is 51%. The mineralization also contains from 0.09% to 1.5% sulfur and from 0.016% to 0.14% phosphate.

Iron | Geoscience Australia

Properties. In the Earth's crust iron is found mainly as minerals of iron oxide such as hematite, magnetite, goethite and limonite. The minerals that are mostly used as ore for making iron are hematite (Fe 2 O 3) and magnetite (Fe 3 O 4).Iron is quite soft and easily worked, but it has a very high melting point of 1538°C.

Magnetite: The Future of Iron Ore

June 18, 2013. By. Jeff Desjardins. Magnetite ore, long the leading source of domestic iron supply in North America, Europe and China, is now increasingly relevant across the globe. The perception that magnetite ore is an inferior substitute to hematite ore is now firmly changing. As easily accessibly, economic hematite deposits become rarer ...

Magnetite spherules in pyroclastic iron ore at El Laco, Chile

Films of iron phosphate are common on magnetite crystals, and vertical pipes called gas escape tubes are abundant in the ore. A SEM study reveals that magnetite spherules in the range 0.05–0.2 mm occur in most samples of friable ore from the central-lower part of the deposit. The proportion of spherules in a sample varies …
